You Stink!

Why do people insist on drenching themselves in perfume and other scented products?  I was running up Lower Table Rock this morning and a full 100 yards before I even had them in sight, I could smell a couple of women who apparently thought that nature needed a little help with smelling fresh.  WHAT THE HELL???  They had so much perfume and scented products on that you could almost taste it.....it made breathing difficult.  Get a clue...if you can be smelled from more than an arm's length away, you've got too much friggin scent applied to your body!!  Good nutrition, hygiene and fitness will have your body smelling better than any artificial scents you can apply ever will.


Merchants of Death and Their Willing Volunteer/Victims

It's the 4th of July, and earlier today I went to the grocery store.  As far as the eye could see were carts full of soda, beer, chips, white bread buns and every manner of slow death imaginable.
It's amazing how most people celebrate such an important day by putting so much garbage and poison into their bodies.


Bright

Picture this---three guys in their 20s standing outside talking.  The sun is kinda bright, so they’re shading their eyes with their hands.  Nothing strange about this, right?  Wrong!!!  Each of them had baseball hats on, but they had them on backwards!!  Duh!!  All three of these geniuses were probably thinking that someone should invent something that could keep the sun out of their eyes.  Well, since so many of you are completely clueless, let me give you a clue---TURN YOUR FLIPPIN HAT AROUND!!!  Put another way, if you’re under 18 and you have your hat on backwards you look like a dumbass, and if you’re over 18 and you have your hat on backwards you ARE a dumbass!

Oxymoron or just a moron?  You tell me.  Saw a guy in his 'low emission' car and he was smoking a cigarette!

Speaking of smokers, why do they always feel the need to share their toxins?

It seems like every time I’m driving and stopped at a stop light, I see someone in the car ahead of or next to me light up a cigarette, and then roll down their window.  What the %*#@ makes you think that the rest of the world wants to breathe your smoke?  If you don’t want to be in a car full of smoke, don’t light up.  Invariably, that smoke that you don’t want to breathe drifts right in my window.  And the same goes for the neighbors that step outside their houses to smoke, or open their windows to clear the smoke out of their houses….your smoke is probably drifting in the window of someone that wanted to let a little fresh air in their home.  A special thanks goes out to all the people that stand outside the entryways to businesses to light up …….. selfish, purely selfish!!!


A Little Rant About Nutrition


What is it going to take to get people to understand the importance of nutrition in their quest for fat loss?

Almost every day someone (family, friends, clients, and even strangers) expresses some frustration with their fat loss results, yet when I ask them about their nutrition all they can tell me is “I’m eating clean” or “I eat nothing but healthy foods” or “I think my calories are around 1600” or even “no one knows any more about nutrition than I do”……….makes me just want to scream!!!

Just because you’re eating healthful foods (if in fact you really are) doesn’t say anything about the timing or number of cals you’re taking in. Also, if you’re just guessing about the number of calories you’re eating or you use the words “about” or “around” or “I think”, then you don’t really know crap about your nutrition. And I’ll tell you this with no reservations at all……if you think you know more about nutrition and specifically how it relates to fitness and fat loss than I do, there is a 99.99% chance that you are WRONG!!!

If you’re not tracking your food intake, then how do you know how many calories you’re eating and how do you know what the macronutrient breakdown is? If you don’t have this information then how do you know what to change when you aren’t seeing the results you want? Quit making excuses about how hard it is to journal your food intake or how you don’t have time to do it………you’re just wasting your time and energy until you do start doing it, so if you’ve got all this precious time and energy to waste then you certainly have time and energy to keep a food log.

And, if you really think you know so much about nutrition, then explain to me why you and your whole family are unhealthy and obese………..and don’t try to say that it’s all in your genetics and that your mother/father was this way and you’ve always been this way so this is the way you were meant to be. That’s just a cop-out and laziness.

Until you’re ready to track your food intake, give up the junk, cut out the booze, admit that you obviously don’t know what you are doing and start listening to someone who does, then you will remain the way you are and continue to be frustrated with your results.

More Geniuses

A guy at the gym had just come out of the showers with a towel around his waist and stepped on the scales. He obviously didn't like what the scale said, so he stepped off, removed the towel from around his waist and stepped back on the scale.......with the towel still in his hand, held out to the side over the floor. Oddly enough, he seemed pleased with the results.

A client of mine was being a bit lazy during his workout.....long breaks, and too many of them.......so I tried to get him to increase the intensity by decreasing the number and duration of the breaks and generally trying to get him to push himself a bit harder. All he had to say was "what difference does it make? I'm going to workout for the same amount of time either way." CLUELESS!! So I guess 45 mins of low intensity will get you the same results as 45 mins of high intensity.....maybe he should just take a 45 min nap and call that his workout.
